The artist and painter Tjalf Sparnaay (The Netherlands, 1954) lives and works in the Dutch town Hilversum. He is a self-taught artist. The artist Tjalf Sparnaay has been working on his impressive oeuvre of paintings since 1987, constantly seeking new images that have never been painted before.
In his paintings Sparnaay makes us see ordinary things that are dear to us in a different light. His technique reflects the seventeenth century Dutch masters, but his subjects are very contemporary and include foodstuffs and objects that are quintessentially Dutch.
Tjalf Sparnaay has been influenced by the work of Vermeer, Rembrandt, Ralph Goings and Charles Bell. He is internationally considered to be one of the most important contemporary painters working in a style called Mega of Hyper Realism and his paintings and limited-edition prints continue to grow in popularity with art collectors and enthusiasts.
