Ole Ahlberg (1949) is a Danish painter with a fast growing international audience. Ole Ahlberg is known by most people for his artworks in which he places Hergé's famous comic book characters Tintin, Captain Haddock and others in a new artistic, often erotic context. These artworks by Ole Ahlberg starring Tintin are loved by many and sell for high prices at auction.Ole Ahlberg's early paintings were formed by the maxim "a picture in a picture in a picture", like a set of Chinese boxes. Now he uses only one central picture surface and one central scene in which the action takes place. He has also replaced his earlier Vanitas symbols like peeled lemons, hourglasses and skulls with more contemporary themes.
You can say that Ole Ahlberg has abandoned his subtle illusionism in favor of a more "normal" painting style but without sacrificing the mystery and ambiguity in his art.
